Childbirth itself is the first shock to the spine & nervous system an infant receives.

Think about the pressure on the infant spine at the time of labor, and the pull on the infant’s head and neck even during a “normal”, uncomplicated delivery. 95% of Subluxations are caused by the process of being born—even in adults!

*Sub-Lux-ation: also known as a vertebral subluxation complex, is a disorder of the spine where the alignment and physiological functions of the spine are altered, moving them from their normal position and placing excessive pressure on the spinal nerves. Instead of the joint surface completely losing contact, a subluxation is considered to be a “partial dislocation.” In some cases, these spinal misalignments can be quite painful, depending on the reason why they form. If left untreated a subluxation can trigger a degenerative process in the surrounding areas, and it might become more difficult to reverse it as the body progressively adjusts itself to the misaligned or partially dislocated shape.

Back to Sleep?

Dr. Towbin, a Harvard Medical School specialist, found that approximately 85% of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), is a direct result of trauma to the infant’s spine during the process of birth.

As well, Dr. Gutmann, a German specialist, found that 80% of all children have a Subluxation in the upper part of the neck. He has shown that this type of a Subluxation can cause:

  • lowered resistance to infection,
  • frequent colds,
  • ear problems,
  • chronic tonsillitis, and more.

Clinical research also indicates that these problems respond faster with a chiropractic adjustment, than antibiotic therapy.

A common result of an uncorrected childhood Subluxation is a condition known as Scoliosis (spinal curvature), most often the result of a pelvic malfunction. We have completed a major research study on this, and the results are quite amazing with the addition of corrective chiropractic care.

Submarines – I mean SubLuxAtions!

Vertebral Subluxations can also be caused by the following:

  • Wearing tight diapers that do not allow proper hip movement and development.
  • Being placed in “Jolly-Jumpers” or Bumbo seats which stress spinal discs before they are fully developed.
  • Gregarious in-laws who insist on throwing children in the air and thereby create “whiplash” microtrauma to a delicate spine and nervous system.

Then, there are the usual processes of crawling, walking, running, and other activities. All of these can create vertebral Subluxations.
As youngsters become older, other incidents can create vertebral Subluxations, such as a fall down stairs, off a bike, out of a tree, off a skateboard, while ice skating, etc…
If allowed to remain, these Subluxations then become the starting point of nervous system and body malfunction. Much like a snowball rolling downhill—gathering speed and momentum.

If not corrected, vertebral Subluxations can lead to degeneration of spinal discs, abnormal calcium deposits, ligament instability, and the onset of arthritis. Not good things.

Within our Clinic we take a brain based stance that takes a functional approach to your health – which ultimately affects how well you live life!

We aren’t like the majority and think that common symptoms are okay (besides our little ones can’t tell us what hurts) But we can test how they are functioning.
